Domestic Career
Varun’s first breakthrough came during the 2018 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). He was instrumental in helping Madurai Panthers secure their first championship through a series of great bowling performances.
He continued to perform exceptionally well during the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2018-19, finishing as Tamil Nadu’s leading wicket-taker and claiming more than twenty wickets in the tournament. His success during this tournament caught the attention of IPL scouts.

Varun made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2021, which finally lived up to the excitement around him as a “mystery spinner” after his strong performances in the IPL. He started carefully, but his control and different bowling styles caught the attention of the team officials.

He started his IPL journey in IPL season 2019. He was brought by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) for Rs. 8.4 crore.
