History and Development
The stadium was originally called the Sylhet Divisional Stadium. The SICS underwent extensive renovations in preparation for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 competition. Created by Bashat Architects Engineers Ltd., the renovation styled a modern facility with international standards and local cultural and environmental features. Its first international match took place on 17 March 2014 (Ireland vs. Zimbabwe).
Architecture and Design Feature

The Sylhet Stadium was designed by Bashat Architects Engineers Ltd., headed by principal architect Ar. Masudur Rahman Khan. The overall design emphasises local Sylhet culture as well as the functionality of modern-day international cricket to comply with global norms.
The project also placed utmost importance on maintaining the topography of the natural hillock landscape of the Lakatura Tea Estate, on which the stadium is located. The architects introduced a novel “green gallery,” a natural open seating area on the hillside itself, creating a unique opportunity for spectators to be engaged in a very different experience, especially compared to other stadiums in Bangladesh.
The stadium has modern features such as floodlights, a high-tech media centre, multiple dressing rooms, hospitality boxes, and a two-story spectator gallery with tensile roofs providing shade and scenery. The colored seating reflects the colours of the national flag of Bangladesh. The project paid very close attention to preserving the natural environment and ensuring the stadium was appropriately integrated within the beautiful existing hills, following ICC specifications.
Seating Capacity

Talking about the seating capacity of the stadium, it has a seating capacity of 18000 to 18,500 spectators. It is designed in a very unique design, as it includes a two-tier gallery with covered seating and a unique green gallery that provides you open ambience to breathe in freshness. Almost 5000 seats were added during its upgrade in 2013 for the ICC World Cup Twenty20 tournament.
Pitch Report
The pitch at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is good for batting, with enough bounce and speed early in the game. It usually helps players who like to hit the ball hard, making matches full of runs. As the game goes on, the pitch starts helping spin bowlers more, which gives bowlers a chance to change things up. The grass on the field is thick and quick, so hitting boundaries is easier. Over time, the pitch has been fair to both bat and ball, leading to exciting and close games. Teams work hard to keep the pitch in top shape for all the big matches and international games.
